Oh man.  So I met this girl at the bar, and I don’t like to meet people at the bar, but if I have to I will.  This girl just knocks me flatt.  She’s gorgeous and nice, she’s just wow… and all I want to do is call her ask her to come over, spend time with her… it sucks not being able to do this.  Stupid rules and dating bullshit.  Anyways she’s just wow… and when she smiles, oh man, and she dances close with me… it’s another world I’m in with this one.  I hope it works out.

Amazing girl...wow.

This weekend

Wow… one hell of a weekend.  Called in on Friday.  Had a mid term Thursday.  Made a 94 on my midterm.  Andy was in town, went out and partied with him all night Thursday, hung out with him most of the day Friday, Saturday spent the day being lazy, hanging out with Andy, Sunday picked up my new glasses and had dinner with the folks.  So Wednesday my tools got stolen out of my truck, so Friday I spent 450 bucks replacing my tools, and buying a tool box that is secure in the back of the truck.  Then Saturday I had my eye exam, that ended up costing me 80 some odd bucks, then 101 for glasses, then 180 for sunglasses.  Expensive weekend, I made 150 on Friday working for Gary so that kinda evened things out a little bit.  This morning I paid for school, that was 360 bucks.  So I effectively have no money what so ever.  Anyways that’s the story and I’m sticking too it.

First day of Class, IPOD and it’s wonderfulness

Filed under: Linux, Math 114, Personal, Projects, School — jlindsey @ 7:34 am

Yesterday was my first day of class. I took half day off to go and get my book, parking pass, and do some things around town. It actually went rather smoothly. First day of class was good… it was long. It’s not going to leave much time for me to do things around the house monday through thursday. I am remembering different things about this subject in math, so hopefully I will do good. I have a test today in chapter 1. I made my first official recording with my ipod yesterday, seems to have come out pretty good. I did have some problems with my ipod last night. Linux was seeing the ipod, but trying to sync with it, and was waiting for the ipod to “settle” according to dmesg. So I did some research, tried a few things. What finally fixed it was turning hold on and off, then holding the center button and the menu button down till it reset. Now it’s functioning properly within linux and virtual windows. Anyways I’ve got to get back to work / school / life.

Cheap Bourbon Whiskey

Filed under: Personal — jlindsey @ 9:58 pm
Cheap bourbon whiskey and pearl snap shirts, are two things that stay the same.

For those of you who don’t know.  I am huge whiskey fan, I love a good bourbon, and I had one tonight.  Crown Cask 16 or whatever is wonderful.  I had it as a sippin whiskey.  It’s very nice, much like gentleman jack except w/o the bite.  Right now I’m punching the last of a ethan whatever it’s called, that shit that looks like Jack.   Anwyays just chiming in.

Denver!

Filed under: Personal — jlindsey @ 7:25 pm

Here I am in Denver.  I’m excited to be here.  With good close friends that I havn’t seen in a long while.  It’s nice to be with them.  They are getting married, which is wonderful.  They have been together as long as I have known them which has been 8 years 9 years something like that.  So it’s not like it’s a major change from the way they live their life now.  It’s comforting to  know that our relationships havn’t deminished over time.  I think that Mike would always be here for me the way I would always be there for him.  The same goes to Liz.  The cats seem to have reversed rolls.  Melvin is skinny and spike is fat.  It was the other way around when I lived with them.  Mike already had his bachelor party, wich sucks cause I was hoping for a night of debauchery.  Ah well.  It’ll be nice to relax with them over the weekend, and over the next week.  I hope that me being here help’s mike’s stress level within the next week.  I may or may not update next week.  I’ll see yah when I get back to cruces.

Soldiers and their wives.

Filed under: Girls, Personal — jlindsey @ 6:59 am

I love our troops.  Please don’t get me wrong, you won’t find another more patriotic person than me.  They are all heroes in my eyes, anyone willing to sacrifice their life so that I may continue to live mine the way I have, is remarkable to say the least.  I find humor in the fact that people drive around and damn the war and damn the president and damn the troops, but what they don’t realize is the reason they can go around making the statements they can is due to the freedom that we have that has been paid by the blood of our soldiers.  A debt I’m afraid we can never pay back.  The little things I try to do for men in uniform, seem inconsequential to me, but if everyone would take the five minutes to help the vet cross the street, or stop and let the active duty personnel cross your path, instead of driving by, will make a big difference.   That being said, here comes the rant.

Why on earth do I have to listen to these lil girls whine about their husbands not being home.  YOU married the solider, YOU knew we are in the middle of a war.  Quit your bitchin.   You made a decision after he made a very important one.  You knew going in that he wouldn’t be there.  I think its horrible that the focus of today for young women is to go find a soldier and marry him.  Everyone I know seems to be doing so.  You know they are going to have issues, mentally, physically when they come back.  You know that they have a dangerous job, but they knew that going in.  Your pledging this huge comitment to this person, before they go overseas to fight, and who knows they may be killed, they will probabbly come back with PDSS, and they are going to be gone for a long time.  I just don’t understand why your complaining, this is all stuff you knew before going into the relationship/marriage.

Now I do have sympethy to those who have lost loved ones overseas.  It’s a price that is unbearable, unfathomable, that we have to pay for our freedom.  There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for a soldier to help them out, no matter how much in a hurry I am, no matter how long it’s going to take.  Anyways that’s my two cents.

Initial Installation

Filed under: Fedora 9, Linux, Personal, Projects — jlindsey @ 8:54 am

So I’ve completed the initial installation.  One of the things that’s new is the ability to encrypt a file system during the install.  I did not choose this option yet.  I am running KDE and it’s very windows vista looking.

There are beta nvidia drivers, but the installation of one of them mucked the system up, and since I didn’t really have anything on here, I wipped it and started over.  The default kde configuration that I have and drivers seems to keep the cpu just a buzzin with activity.  I hope that when the nvidia drivers come out that are stable for the new xorg that this will drop my cpu usage down from 50%.  I tried to get vmware to install, that wouldn’t work either.  I think it has something to do with the new xorg as well.

One thing that I have liked is the new pulse audio support.  It seems to be much better than in 8.  I can actually controll the volume through the little volume icon on the taskbar or pane as they call it.  In 8, you have to open up some dialog to get it to work, and it’s just a pain all around.

As far as for the future, I hope to get this box up and running in a more efficient manner, with the nvidia drivers, and getting vmware on here and seeing how well it handles that.  I’ll post later on how I feel more about the os.

Fedora 9

So Fedora 9 came out a few days ago, I’ve installed it twice on my laptop.  I will keep a sublog of my experiences with it, and let you know how it is.
